A digital ID wallet is being developed for citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with availability expected by mid-2025. As IdentityWeek.net reports, the platform’s development is being led by Croatian tech startup Identity Consortium, and is part of the ‘EU4DigitalSME’ project, which aims to modernize identification processes through secure electronic identification, authentication, and document signing.
EU4DigitalSME is an initiative aimed at supporting the digital transformation of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Bosnia and Herzegovina, focusing on enhancing their competitiveness and integration into the broader European digital economy. Funded by the European Union and supported by the German Government, the program aims to modernize digital infrastructure and services, enabling secure electronic identification, authentication, and improved access to digital tools.
The digital ID wallet will be developed under the Identyum brand, in collaboration with Adverta Pro, to provide a backend system and mobile application. The platform will enable Bosnian citizens to access public and private services using their digital identity, aligning with European regulations and supporting Bosnia’s integration into the EU digital ecosystem.
It is expected to enable a range of services aimed at modernizing identification processes for citizens. Key functionalities will include electronic identification and authentication, allowing users to securely access various public and private services.
The wallet will also facilitate digital document signing, enhancing the efficiency of transactions requiring official approvals. Additionally, it is expected to store and manage various credentials, such as identity documents, driver’s licenses, and educational certificates. This capability aims to empower users to control their personal data and share it securely with authorized entities, and to streamline interactions with government services, potentially covering areas like tax filing, social security access, and the application for official documents.
The digital ID wallet is also being designed to integrate with the European digital ecosystem, which may provide Bosnian citizens access to services typically available in EU countries. Future applications could extend to travel documentation and healthcare management, as well as financial services like opening bank accounts or making payments.
This news follows the German government’s announcement earlier this week that it plans to develop its own European Digital Identity (EUDI) Wallet, allowing citizens to store identity data and official documents on their smartphones and use a Qualified Electronic Signature. That wallet will initially focus on identity verification, with later additions like boarding pass and payment card storage.
