Booz Allen Hamilton to Provide Biometric Hardware to DoD in $36M Contract

Booz Allen Hamilton has won a major new contract from the Department of Defense.

As listed on a DoD contracts notice, the Virginia-based company will provide a “technology refresh” for the DoD’s Identity Dominance System, or “IDS”. This will entail the provision of a handheld biometric device aimed at replacing a base unit already in use by the DoD; though more broadly, “The IDS technology refresh effort is a refresh of the entire current configuration,” the DoD post indicated.

The DoD said the contract is valued at $36,655,871, on a “cost-plus-fixed-fee, firm-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite quantity” basis. “Fiscal 2018 research, development, test and evaluation (Navy) funding in the amount of $1,522,548 will be obligated at time of award and will expire at the end of the current fiscal year,” the listing added.

The contract award further illustrates the DoD’s strong interest in biometric technologies, with behavioral biometrics specialist Twosense.ai having revealed last week that it was paid $2.42 million to participate in a project aimed at developing a multimodal, passive authentication system to replace the Common Access Card that is currently used on an internal basis by DoD personnel.

The Department of Defense says it expects Booz Allen Hamilton to complete its work on this new project by January of 2024.
