A combination of human-machine interface tech growth and a boom in voice biometric technology is being cited as a key driver in the Global Automotive Voice Recognition Market, a new report from the Research and Markets.
According to the report, the market will grow at a CAGR of 10.59 percent from 2014 through 2018.
The report deals with what is being referred to as the connected car: the next generation of automotive vehicle that combines telematics, biometrics, mobility and infotainment in order to make driving safer and even more convenient.
As these technologies become available at lower price points, a strong need for hands free interface is emerging. Singled out in the report as catering to this demand are Ford Sync and Fiat Blue&Me. Both solutions use voice recognition in order to take full advantage of a car’s features while allowing drivers to keep their hands where they belong (on the steering wheel).
This demand for hands-free interface is also growing in the world of commerce, particularly where mobile is concerned. Our sister site, Mobile ID World, recently interviewed Brett Beranek from voice biometric provider Nuance Communications in regards to what he calls the Mobile Promise. The needs of the end user are demanding more convenience when it comes to interfacing with their machines, be it a smartphone, tablet or vehicle. What this report shows is that the demand is ready to be served.
The car of the future is not just going to be home to voice biometrics. Recently, at the Aspen Ideas Festival, Toyota demonstrated its Driver Research Vehicle which uses Microsoft’s Kinect technology to bring full body scan biometrics to an automobile’s access control.
