BizVibe is predicting that facial recognition will have a transformative impact on the air travel and hospitality sectors in its latest Industry Trends report. The firm believes that the technology will be particularly useful at booking and check-in, since customers can book a reservation online and then head straight to a self-serve kiosk when they get to the hotel.
Those self-service kiosks are expected to speed up the check-in process, insofar as they will make it so that people no longer need to wait in line to speak to an available agent. The kiosks would be able to scan someone’s ID, and match their face to that ID with facial recognition.
BizVibe believes that face-based check-in procedures will be especially popular in the North American, European, and Asia-Pacific regions. In that regard, it is not the only company making the case for biometric technology in hospitality. Onfido, for example, has provided onboarding tech for a hotel booking app, while NEC has launched its own contactless hotel check-in solution. The company has also noted that self-serve kiosks can help promote social distancing in the wake of COVID-19.
The use of facial recognition is even more widespread in the travel industry. The technology has been installed in airports all over the world to help streamline the passenger screening process and get people to their planes as efficiently as possible.
