BioSec Provides Biometric Security for Construction Site in Germany

BioSec has found another customer for its GateKeeper access control system. The biometric solution has been installed at a construction site in Germany to ensure that only those with the proper clearance are able to gain access to the venue.

The GateKeeper system utilizes contactless palm vein recognition to verify people’s identities. BioSec argues that the technology is ideal for a rough venue like a construction site because the scanner will still function properly in a dusty environment and it can authenticate people with dirty hands.

“People often think about biometric access control solutions as a secure alternative for opening doors, but they have much more potential,” said BioSec CEO, Péter Györgydeák. “We can also open gates, turnstiles or mobile access points in a desert or on the top of a mountain.”

GateKeeper will negate the need for physical access cards, which can be lost or stolen and often need to be replaced. Entry can be restricted to registered employees, or enforce other workplace requirements. For example, employees may not be granted permission to the site until they have completed a health and safety training course.

The deployment was achieved through BioSec’s arrangement with Secobit GmbH, which acts as BioSec’s strategic partner in Germany. BioSec recently updated the GateKeeper platform to support temperature detection in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
