BioSec Adds Temperature Detection to Biometric Access Control Platform

BioSec has integrated a temperature detection system into its BS GateKeeper solution in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. BS GateKeeper is a biometric access control solution that utilizes palm vein recognition to grant authorized individuals access to a physical facility.

The new temperature detection capabilities are being delivered by a third party. The setup uses a black box to record the reference temperature at the access control checkpoint, and then uses a camera to record the temperature of the individual trying to gain entry. The system will deny access and alert staff if it determines that that person is running a fever.

Since fever is a symptom of COVID-19, the system can prevent an infected individual from coming into contact with other people. GateKeeper can be configured to support contactless authentication to further reduce the threat of transmission.

“Besides securing people’s environment, we would like to also protect their health and do our best to prevent the spread of the coronavirus,” said BioSec CEO Péter Györgydeák. “We integrated fever detection into BS GateKeeper so we can recognize potentially infected people before they contact more people.”

The integration makes BioSec the latest company to promote temperature detection as an effective public health measure. DERMALOG, Hytera, and ZKTeco have all highlighted the temperature reading capabilities of their solutions since the onset of COVID-19.
