Automated border control solutions are on the rise across the globe, with recent analysis predicting that airports are expected to spend more than $2.2 billion globally on ABC eGates and kiosks between 2014 and 2018. Europe is set to dominate the market share, but that doesn’t mean we won’t be seeing this growth in the United States.
Yesterday, CLEAR, a provider of biometric identity systems, announced that Miami International Airport will soon benefit from the company’s automated traveler service. The idea, as with all next generation airport security deployments, is to bring a seamless and convenient experience to travellers without sacrificing anything in terms of security.
This deployment is a big job for biometrics. CLEAR CEO Caryn Seidman Becker explains, “Miami International Airport serves more than 40 million passengers every year, a number that will continue to increase. CLEAR and Miami International Airport are both dedicated to creating the best and safest possible travel experience for residents and visitors alike.”
The mayor of Miami-Dade County, Carlos Gimenez, is excited to begin this partnership with CLEAR, calling the relationship an example of his city’s dedication to innovation and new technology.
Integrated with the TSA PreCheck program, CLEAR’s platform uses fingerprint and iris biometrics to identify its members. It promises that registered travellers can pass through airport security using its solution in under an average time of five minutes.
In June, CLEAR announced that its biometric solution would be spiriting passengers through security in Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport.
