The facial biometrics provider Saffe has aced the Face Recognition Vendor Test (FRVT) carried out by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The company’s proprietary face matching technology achieved a top 15 performance against all other competitors, which is an impressive accomplishment for a startup that has only been around for four years.
Saffe bested a number of larger and more established facial recognition platforms, and hopes to use the FRVT as a springboard to expand its customer base in the financial sector.
“The world class results confirm that we are among the best technology providers in the world for facial biometrics,” said Saffe CEO André Coelho. “We are sure that our clients will appreciate these results, which further support our goal of creating a network among financial institutions and enterprises.”
Saffe offers proprietary liveness detection to go along with its facial recognition algorithm, and can be used via the cloud or onsite.
It’s not the first company to celebrate its FRVT standing. The NIST’s test is considered the gold standard for facial recognition providers, with key players like Innovatrics, IDEMIA, and Cognitec all boasting about strong performances in recent months.
Saffe’s top 15 overall ranking reflects its average score across four separate evaluation categories.
