VSBLTY and Energetika Celebrate Success of Mexico City Surveillance Program

VSBLTY and Energetika are toasting the early success of their smart city surveillance program in Mexico City. The two companies announced that they were working together back in June, and started deploying cameras and security kits over the course of 2019.  

The joint solution blends Energetika’s smart lighting tech with VSBLTY’s crowd analytics and facial recognition software. The security kits incorporate HD cameras, motion sensors, alarms, and high-intensity lighting, and supplement the hardware with real-time analysis of crowd behavior. The system piggybacks on the local internet service, and is accessible to civilians through a mobile application that doubles as a neighborhood watch and a panic button.

Though the network has not yet been fully installed, the Mayor of Cuajimalpa County credits the VSBLTY and Energetika system for making Cuajimalpa the safest county in Mexico City. The neighboring Cuauhtemoc County reported a similar 40 percent crime reduction. The full network will eventually encompass 40,000 cameras spread across 56 Mexico City communities.

“We are excited to see the amazing early safety results of this deployment. It is setting the standard for collaborative security where citizens, law enforcement and technology work together to achieve a higher level of security,” said VSBLTY CEO Jay Hutton.

Energetika is hoping to build on the Mexico City pilot, and is already pitching its security kits to other cities in Central and South America. VSBLTY, meanwhile, indicated that it will continue to introduce new surveillance features, including weapon detection, vehicle analytics, and a tool that allows the system to track persons of interest as they move through the city.

VSBLTY has also worked to increase its international profile outside of Latin America. The company recently launched a retail pilot with a Canadian pharmacy after retaining the services of a Canadian investor relations firm, and moved forward with new security initiatives in South Africa.
