Vision-Box Brings Biometric Boarding to Bengaluru Airport

The Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru, India, is rolling out a biometric boarding program in collaboration with Vision-Box. The Digi Yatra project will eventually include 350 touchpoints spread throughout the airport’s entire Terminal 1, making it the largest biometric boarding program in Asia.

For now, however, the program will only be available to passengers with the Vistara airline, who will be able to register their travel ID, their biometric information, and their flight details before getting to the airport. Once they arrive, they’ll be able to move through check-in, security, and boarding without the need to show any paperwork, providing only a biometric scan for authentication and document verification. Any biometric information will be deleted a few hours after landing.

The technology comes courtesy of Vision-Box’s One-ID biometric platform, which is being deployed through a partnership with Vistara. The program will expand to all Vistara passengers by October of 2019 before making its way to other airlines and KIA’s Terminal 2 in the following months. The full Digi Yatra project will be a curb-to-gate biometric processing system built around facial recognition.

Vision-Box has provided the technology for biometric eGates in airports all over the world, with new deployments taking place in Amsterdam, Bahrain, and Los Angeles over the past few months. The company has also opened a new office in Tokyo ahead of the anticipated travel boom during the 2020 Olympics.
