Vision-Box Begins Seamless Flow Trial at Rome Airport

Vision-Box is moving forward with a pilot of its Seamless Flow One-ID platform at the Fiumicino Airport in Rome, Italy. The platform uses facial recognition technology to reduce the amount of time that travelers need to move through the airport.

The pilot will last for a period of six months, and will only be available to passengers flying from Rome to Amsterdam. Vision-Box introduced Seamless Flow at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport last February, and is carrying out this latest pilot in collaboration with the Italian Civil Aviation Authority and the State Police.

Seamless Flow is an opt-in self-service solution that covers every step of the passenger journey, from check-in all the way to boarding. Those who choose to use it must submit to a facial recognition scan, which will be compared to the photo on their official travel document. The traveler’s facial biometrics will be linked to their passport and travel information, allowing them to move through security checkpoints and board the plane without needing to show their boarding pass or any additional documents.

The Seamless Flow platform complies with the EU’s data privacy regulations, and does not store any photos of the participants, and any information collected through the platform is deleted once the passenger boards their plane. The system utilizes Vision-Box’s Orchestra algorithm for facial recognition.

Vision-Box recently opened a new manufacturing facility in Portugal, and discussed digital identity during a panel conversation at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
