Unisys Lands Contract with US Department of Health and Human Services

Unisys has been awarded a contract with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to provide Artificial Intelligence solutions for the government agency.

The five year contract with a potential value of $49 million is aimed at enabling the HHS to use automation and other innovative solutions to combat fraud, use facial recognition to identify suspects of services theft, and reduce operational backlog, as well as streamline other services.

“Unisys is excited to provide technologies to help HHS further its mission of modernizing and improving the delivery of vital services to the public,” said Melissa Carson, group vice president for civilian agencies, Unisys Federal. “We have already integrated artificial intelligence, machine learning, advanced data analytics and other relevant technologies into our secure solution offerings, and are ready right now to apply the innovations that HHS needs to transform its operations and service model,” she added.

Unisys is an information technology company with a global reach that provides security-centric solutions for both governments and private enterprises.

Unisys has previously worked with the HHS and this contract represents a potential expansion of that relationship. It also affords the HHS the opportunity to move forward in its aim of enhancing and protecting the health and well-being of Americans by investing in advances in medicine, public health and social services.

This contract is another sign of how the healthcare industry is turning to biometrics to improve security and solve some of the problems healthcare professionals face.

Unisys has had some experience working with the US Government outside of the HHS, including last year when they struck a deal to provide the Army with biometric software that would identify soldiers in the field in real-time.

Outside of the US, Unisys has also been awarded government contracts in Queensland, Australia, to provide biometric driver’s licenses, and in the United Kingdom to provide facial recognition for Her Majesty’s Passport Office. They have also worked in the banking sector in both Hong Kong, and the Phillipines.

Earlier this year, Unisys launched its Stealth(identity) biometric identity management software, expanding its security offerings for enterprise clients.
