TIE 2019 Brings Future Technology Pavilion to Taiwan

The 2019 Taiwan Innotech Expo (TIE) has opened the Future Technology Pavilion to give guests a glimpse at the latest Taiwanese AI innovations. Organized by Taiwan’s Industrial Development Bureau (IDB) and Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), the 2019 iteration of the Future Technology Pavilion is showcasing more than 100 domestically developed solutions that have emerged through Taiwan’s 5+2 Industrial Innovation Plan.

The Pavilion itself its divided into three separate sections. The highlight of the Smart Manufacturing Section is an Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV), which essentially operates like a colony of ants that uses wireless technology to communicate with other AGVs.

Visitors to the Digital Services Section will get to see a mobile surveillance and facial recognition system designed for law enforcement, while those in the Smart City Section will be treated to a tool that uses AI to provide a much earlier diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy. Some of the other technologies on display across the three sections include a smart robot, an exoskeleton robot, and a safe driving solution, amongst many others.

TIE is part of a broader push to modernize and encourage Taiwanese businesses to update their operations with the latest tech. To that end, a public bank in Taiwan recently introduced facial recognition technology from Kneron, while Gogoro has unveiled a new lightweight smart scooter with biometric security.

The Future Technology Pavilion is located in Exhibition Hall 1 at the Taipei World Trade Center. The exhibit will run from September 26th to 28th.
