Skypatrol Leverages Ipsidy Access for New Biometric Truck Lock

The fleet management company Skypatrol has integrated Ipsidy’s mobile authentication tech into a new line of biometric locks designed specifically for the trucking industry. The SkyOne lock is opened with a facial recognition scan performed through the Ipsidy Access app, which allows companies to ensure that only enrolled and authorized users are able to gain access to their goods in transit.

The SkyOne is shaped to fit the back gate of most trucks, though it can also be deployed at warehouses and other remote venues. The solution leverages Skypatrol’s proprietary GPS technology, allowing fleet operators to know exactly where a lock is at any given time.

Ipsidy’s selfie authentication, meanwhile, will let those operators know who opened the lock, creating an auditable trail that documents every step of the cargo journey. According to Skypatrol, the SkyOne offers a higher level of security than keys, largely because keys are much more likely to get copied, lost or stolen.

“We are excited to work with Ipsidy to heighten security for mobile and remote assets,” said Skypatrol CEO Robert Rubin. “The SkyOne lock is another advanced solution added to Skypatrol’s multiple cutting-edge GPS technologies.”

Ipsidy and Skypatrol previously collaborated on the SkyGuru mobile payments platform, which utilizes facial recognition to authorize the purchase of gas and other necessities with participating merchants while on the road. Companies using SkyGuru can top up employee accounts remotely to take more control of their operating expenses.

The new integration is in keeping with Ipsidy’s efforts to increase its profile in Latin America, where Skypatrol’s presence is particularly strong. Ipsidy recently partnered with the National ID Registry of Peru, which will use the Proof Identity app to facilitate identity verification and mobile onboarding.  

The SkyOne will be available through Skypatrol. Ipsidy Access has also been integrated into Gurtam’s Wialon GPS tracking platform, which is part of Skypatrol’s fleet management solution.
