Lottoland is turning to IDnow to verify the identities and ages of its customers. The European online gaming platform will specifically be using IDnow’s AutoIdent solution to confirm the identities of new users during their initial registration, ensuring that everyone using the platform is legally old enough to do so.
AutoIdent is a face-based authentication solution that matches the individual to the photo on their official government ID. For liveness detection, the platform uses a short video stream rather than a selfie, though the whole process can still be carried out with a standard smartphone or web camera. It will also allow Lottoland to remain compliant with strict gaming regulations, including British regulations that require an identity check even for free games.
“In our business, flexible customer service, security and legal compliance are crucial,” said Lottoland CEO Nigel Birrell. “With its online identification solution, IDnow offers us the very best in all areas.”
IDnow developed AutoIdent in collaboration with DERMALOG. The platform itself was first launched back in February, shortly after IDnow upgraded its facial recognition and document reading capabilities. AutoIdent can recognize documents from 193 different countries, which gives it broad utility for a mobile gaming company like Lottoland.

Like all biometrics solutions, face recognition technology measures and matches the unique characteristics for the purposes of identification or authentication. Often leveraging a digital or connected camera, facial recognition software can detect faces in images, quantify their features, and then match them against stored templates in a database.
Face scanning biometric tech is incredibly versatile and this is reflected in its wide range of potential applications. Learn more on FindBiometrics’ Facial Recognition page.
