NEXT’s Latest Biometric Module Receives FBI Certification

The latest fingerprint module from NEXT Biometrics has officially received Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Certification from the FBI. The module is called the One Touch 2000, and is built with a large-size FAP 20 fingerprint sensor.

“The PIV certification is important for customers within government ID and Access-Control markets,” said NEXT CEO Peter Heuman. “Our FAP 20 sensors already generate interest from customers seeking to benefit from the large-size sensor performance and thin form factor.”

The One Touch 2000 certification process was carried out by the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services Division. It determined that the NEXT module is compliant with the agency’s Next Generation Identification Image Quality Specifications.

The news comes shortly after the Trustech 2019 debut of a new NEXT module designed specifically for dual interface biometric smart cards. The company has since joined forces with Softlock to carry out a biometric card pilot for the government of an unnamed country in Africa.

NEXT received a $100,000 fingerprint module order from an undisclosed but preexisting customer back in September. The company’s sensors will also be featured in Tactilis’s Smart Island digital identity pilot with the government of Madeira, which is expected to begin in early 2020 and continue for the rest of the year.
