NEC America’s Biometric Center of Excellence has received ISO 9001:2015 certification. The center is located in Rancho Cordova, California, and serves as a base of operations for the company’s Advanced Recognition Systems (ARS) Division. The certification itself was awarded by National Quality Assurance (NQA), and indicates that NEC America meets the latest quality assurance standards according to the Quality Management Systems (QMS) framework.
The certification covers the processes, the staff, and the premises at the Biometric Center of Excellence. On that front, the entire ARS team has received training for the QMS framework and their operational processes meet the requirements of the program. The development lifecycles for NEC’s Multi-Modal Identification System (MBIS) are similarly ISO 9001:2015 certified. The technology in that pipeline has appeared in the Integra ID and NeoFace platforms.
“NEC is committed to delivering the highest level of quality to its customers, and this certification reaffirms that commitment,” said NEC ARS SVP Raffie Beroukhim. “NEC will continue to improve processes to ensure we are consistently exceeding the quality expectation and requirements for our customers.”
The certification comes in the wake of internal and external audits, after which NEC received additional commendations for exceeding the standard requirements. It also attests to NEC’s ability to develop and deploy biometric solutions that will be legitimately useful to its customers.
NEC’s facial recognition algorithm achieved the top score in the NIST’s 2018 Face Recognition Vendor Test. The company has previously provided NeoFace tech for government agencies in Arizona and Australia, and the platform will be integral to the security setup at the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
