Meet Group to Verify Online Daters with FaceTec 3D Face Authentication

The Meet Group is using FaceTec’s face authentication with Certified Liveness Detection technology to verify the identities of the people using its MeetMe dating app. The company is hoping that the technology will cut down on catfishing, and give online daters more confidence in the online dating process.

To that end, FaceTec’s solution compares a user’s selfie to the photo on their official ID to make sure that they are indeed the person they claim to be, and that they match the images in their profile. The Meet Group believes that the system will be more efficient and more reliable than manual verification alternatives.

While participation is voluntary, users who choose to submit to the scan will receive a badge that indicates that their identity has been verified. The app will still be available to people who do not wish to complete the process, but customers may be less willing to interact with accounts that haven’t been confirmed.

The Meet Group is planning to launch the verification feature in the second quarter of 2020. If it goes well, the company indicated that verified users could have access to other perks that will not be available to unverified accounts.

The system could also be used to for age verification to ensure that there are no underage users on the dating site. The Meet Group previously partnered with Yoti (and leveraged its Age Scan tech) for similar ends, and the company will offer live-streaming video to give users the opportunity to talk face-to-face (in a manner of speaking) before choosing to meet in person.

According to the Meet Group, the information collected through FaceTec’s 3D face authentication technology, but wholly managed by the Meet Group, will only be used to verify users, and will not be shared with any other parties. FaceTec’s biometric system was the first to achieve iBeta Level 1 and Level 2 certification, and is already being used to secure sensitive applications like cryptocurrency wallets and voting platforms.
