IDEX Biometrics has officially received EMVCo Certification. The company claims that it is the first biometric sensor company to accomplish the feat, which marks IDEX as a verified provider of components for EMVCo products.
For IDEX, the certification will advance the company’s efforts to mass produce parts for biometric smart cards. Such cards are increasingly central to the company’s core business activities, especially in the wake of recent partnerships with Quest Payment Systems and DongWoon.
The new certification comes after the company’s Farnborough development site in the U.K. passed the EMVCo Security Evaluation.
“Now smartcard manufacturers can directly integrate IDEX’s biometric software, use our reference designs, and embed our sensors in their products,” said IDEX CEO Stan Swearingen. “We believe this critical milestone will facilitate manufacturing and deployment of biometric smartcards in large quantities.”
IDEX Biometrics previously received a UK patent for an on-card enrollment system designed to help users register their fingerprint to a new biometric card. The company’s enrollment technology has already been licensed to Chutian Dragon and IDEMIA.
In other news, IDEX also published the results of a survey that found that British youth would like security providers to create better age gates to prevent underage individuals from gaining access to restricted content.
