Fingerprint Cards (FPC) is celebrating some of its recent milestones in the biometric payments industry. The company’s fingerprint sensors have already been featured in more than 20 biometric payment card trials internationally, and some of those efforts are finally beginning to enter the commercial phase. The Swiss Corner Bank deployed FPC tech in its limited-edition Cornèrcard Biometric Gold Visa, while a Thales card has received Mastercard certification.
FPC, meanwhile, has decided to commemorate that progress with a breakdown of the tests that the company needed to pass to make it to this point. To that end, FPC noted that all of its production facilities have been EMVCo certified as of November 2019, and that its cards (and sensors) are subjected to rigorous stress tests to assess their durability. For instance, a payment card needs to be able to survive extreme temperature conditions and be resistant to scratches, chemicals, and other forms of physical wear and tear.
Of course, a biometric payment card also needs to be secure. FPC’s latest products are compliant with the global EMVCo payment standards, and needed to clear the unique requirements of each payment network before going to market. The software in the cards is similarly evaluated by third parties to make sure it is secure. On that front, FPC emphasized the fact that its matching process is carried out on the card itself, so there is no external database with the user’s biometric information.
FPC’s biometric payment card technology also has the approval of China’s Bank Card Test Center.
