CyberLink and Altek have formed a new strategic partnership that will bring CyberLink’s FaceMe facial recognition platform to Altek’s AI BOX. The collaboration will allow the BOX to be used as an edge computing device for a variety of different surveillance scenarios.
The AI BOX itself is built with Qualcomm QSC603 technology and runs a Yotco Linux operating system. FaceMe, meanwhile, is able to pick up attributes like gender, age, and emotion, which gives it applications that go well beyond identity verification. For example, retailers could deploy the technology to conduct customer research in their stores.
“There’s a growing demand for AI applications on IoT and AIoT edge devices,” said CyberLink Founder and CEO Jau Huang. “FaceMe and Altek’s AI BOX demonstrate an ideal reference design to deploy facial recognition on IoT edge for smart surveillance applications.”
Altek is best known for being a developer of sophisticated camera technologies, with a portfolio that includes sensors, camera modules, and deep learning chips. The company has worked with CyberLink in the past, most notably when it integrated FaceMe into its AL6100 3D depth sensing chip to enable facial recognition on consumer devices.
FaceMe has performed well in recent NIST testing, placing 12th in the WILD 1E-4 benchmark category. The strategic partnership with Altek comes shortly after CyberLink formed a similar partnership to bring FaceMe to IEI Integration’s industrial computers.
