COVID-19 has been an almost constant presence in FindBiometrics’ top stories roundups for weeks now, but the latest edition is a little different: whereas earlier stories tended to be about the disruption that the pandemic was wreaking, this week’s most popular stories are all about how players in the biometrics industry are adapting their technology to the fight against the virus.
Two major companies, for example, announced efforts to integrate their technologies into ‘immunity passport’ solutions that would theoretically help economies around the world to reopen by letting organizations determine who does and doesn’t have a clean bill of health. CLEAR, for example, is turning its expedited biometric screening platform to this purpose:

And Onfido, a specialist in selfie-based biometric authentication, announced that it’s in talks with the UK government about developing COVID-19 immunity passports:

Meanwhile, on the digital front, BioCatch caught readers’ interest this week with its warnings about rising account takeover fraud during the COVID-19 pandemic, with fraudsters taking advantage of the huge upticks in remote work and the use of e-services as so many individuals are compelled to stay home:

Temperature screening has also emerged as an important new trend, with multiple companies now having announced such solutions in an effort to help organizations identify individuals who may have a fever. ZKTeco is among the latest such solutions providers:

On that note, FEMA caught a lot of readers’ attention this week with its announcement that it’s looking for a vendor to provide temperature screening systems to help it reopen two of its facilities in Washington State:
