“…the rise of biometrics more broadly is HID Global’s third major trend, with such technology being used to help ensure the right patient is getting prescribed medication, to more effectively manage patient records, and more.”
Coinciding with this week’s Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMMS) conference, HID Global has identified some identity technology trends that are currently helping to transform the healthcare industry.
One is the emergence of Public Key Infrastructure, OTP tokens, and biometrics in healthcare facilities. While these technologies offer solutions for compliance with new DEA and HIPAA for EPCS regulations, their benefits in protecting sensitive data and facility access points are becoming increasingly clear to healthcare administrators.
Another of HID Global’s trends is the use of new technologies to administer remote care, such as electronic visit verification and emerging IoT solutions. Biometrics can play a role here, too, with even the sensors of an iPhone now able to offer useful clinical data remotely; and meanwhile the rise of biometrics more broadly is HID Global’s third major trend, with such technology being used to help ensure the right patient is getting prescribed medication, to more effectively manage patient records, and more.
HID Global says these trends will have an impact this year and beyond, and has likely been getting some attention with its own such technologies at HIMSS 2017 this week.
