This week’s roundup of FindBiometrics’ top stories includes some of the biggest names in the global biometrics industry and a fast-rising contender that is generating a lot of investor excitement.
It also features one of the most prominent third party testing programs in the world – the Department of Homeland Security’s Biometric Technology Rally, an evaluation program run by the Department’s Science and Technology Directorate. Meanwhile, another global biometrics giant generated some reader interest with news concerning biometric border control. Thales’s biometric border kiosk solution will be used by French authorities to meet the impending identity verification requirements of the Schengen Area’s Entry/Exit System, which will go into effect in 2022. Thales’s kiosks support face and fingerprint biometrics, and feature document reading capabilities:

Online fraud was another hot topic this week, with readers showing strong interest in news about a report from TransUnion. The report detailed significant increases in fraudulent transactions targeting businesses in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as a rise in attacks against individuals, with phishing being a particularly common tactic in the latter case:

On a much more positive note, this week delivered another sign of the excitement about biometric anti-fraud technology, in the form of a $25 million Series A funding round for Incode Technologies. Based on facial recognition technology, the company’s solution enables selfie-based onboarding and authentication, and iBeta-tested passive liveness detection technology that can spot the signs of attempts to trick the system with fraudulent biometric credentials:
