BIO-key‘s acquisition of IAM specialist PistolStar is already paying off, with the company announcing that it has snagged its first client contract for PistolStar’s PortalGuard solution.
The client in question is Arcadia University, a private institution in Pennsylvania with about 4,000 post-secondary students. The school was looking for a multi-factor Single Sign On and password reset solution that could be deployed across a range of software applications including Canvas, Everfi, ExamSoft, LinkedIn Learning, and more.
PortalGuard, which is already used by a number of educational institutions around the world, fit the bill.
“PortalGuard provides organizations with a comprehensive suite of identity and access management solutions that provide IT help desk efficiencies as well as drive security and compliance benefits,” explained PistolStar President Mark Cochran in a statement announcing the Arcadia agreement. “We enable the organization to develop an IAM strategy to suit its specific security and end-user requirements.”
BIO-key first announced its plans to acquire PistolStar in early June, completing the $2.5 million transaction on July 1st. With the multi-factor authentication capabilities of its PortalGuard solution, it seemed a natural fit in combination with BIO-key’s fingerprint-based biometric authentication solutions.
“With the additional of PortalGuard, BIO-key now offers a comprehensive suite of IAM solutions, including BIO-key’s unmatched biometric technology and expertise,” said BIO-key CEO Michael DePasquale. “Our customizable, multifactor capabilities provide a compelling solution for a broader set of end markets and customers with diverse user population profiles, such as higher education, a key market for PortalGuard.”
