Air Canada Pilots Biometric ‘Digital Identification’

Air Canada has become the first Canadian airline to let customers enroll their face biometrics in a “digital identification” pilot. At the moment, it’s being test on select flights from Vancouver to Winnipeg, with eligible travelers receiving a notification about the option through the Air Canada mobile app; but the airline says that it plans to bring the service to travelers headed from Vancouver to Toronto Pearson International Airport “very shortly“. Air Canada says that all participants’ biometric data will be encrypted and stored only on their personal devices.

PopPay Coming to Tyme Checkouts

Biometric payments startup PopID has acquired another US-based customer: Tyme, the provider of a restaurant ordering platform, will integrate PopPay payment system into its self-checkout kiosks, enabling end users to pay for their orders with a face scan, and with no need to present payment cards or any other hardware token, including cash. The news comes shortly after PopID saw its biometric payment system integrated into select Carrefour supermarkets in Dubai earlier this month.

Finance Consultancy Embraces Zerify Meet

Yanis Development Group, a Florida-based finance consultancy, has licensed Zerify’s flagship secure video conferencing platform, Zerify Meet, in an effort to better protect its clients and partners. Zerify Meet supports biometric authentication for video call login, and attracted a couple of new clients for Zerify toward the end of last year. The company also recently established a new healthcare-focused cybersecurity partnership with Apex Cybersecurity Solutions.

Indian OEM Orders Points to Potential ‘Breakthrough’ for NEXT

NEXT Biometrics says it has received a recurring delivery request from its as-yet-unnamed India-based OEM partner amounting to over $1 million in revenue this year. The deliver request concerns NEXT’s FAP 20 fingerprint sensors, and comes amid a new “next-generation biometric program” announced by Indian authorities that will require biometric devices to adhere to updated standards, NEXT explained in a statement. “It is great to finally witness the launch we’ve been waiting for in India,” said NEXT Sales and Marketing SVP Ulf Ritsvall, adding later, “This could be one of the most positive breakthroughs for NEXT related to generating recurring volumes.”

Alcatraz Enables Remote Onboarding

Alcatraz AI has added an important new feature to its flagship biometric access control solution, the Rock. It now supports web-based “Mobile Enrollment”, enabling end users to submit their face biometrics remotely using a smartphone or tablet. What’s more, the new feature comes with a “Privacy Consent Management” tool the prompts users to opt in (or out) of the biometric system, helping organizations to ensure they are compliant with privacy regulations like GDPR and BIPA.

USPTO Grants Notice of Allowance to Trust Stamp

Trust Stamp has been granted a Notice of Allowance from the United States Patent and Trademark Office for its system for transforming biometrics and other identity data into “an irreversibly transformed identity token”, as the company calls it. The patent encompasses multiple modalities and also concerns biometric matching as well as matching biometric modalities to biographic data. “This will be our fourteenth issued patent, and we have an additional 19 patent applications pending,” boasted Trust Stamp CEO Gareth N. Genner.
