“With biometric technology, IoT providers can ensure data security across an entire network without increasing the burden on the end user.”
IDEX Biometrics has continued its blog series on the Internet of Things with a look at the way that biometric technology is shaping the IoT market. In the post, IDEX CFO Henrik Knudtzon explains that the secure and convenient nature of biometric credentials like fingerprints makes them ideal for safe, streamlined IoT connections across multiple devices.
“Biometrics create a seamless authentication experience,” writes Knudtzon. “The ease of integration, the unique credentials that they create, and the continued evolution of devices that can utilize biometric technology make this the security measure of the future.”
With biometric technology, IoT providers can ensure data security across an entire network without increasing the burden on the end user. As IDEX has previously noted, biometric identifiers are constant and difficult to replicate. People using them no longer need to worry about unauthorized users or getting locked out of their own device when they forget a password, making biometric authorization a feature that will only become more important as more IoT devices require login credentials.
Biometric authentication has already made its way into a number of consumer technologies, ranging from biometric payment cards to the fingerprint and facial recognition sensors that have become common features on modern smartphones. Given the convenience and the security benefits, Knudtzon observes that it’s only a matter of time before such innovations make their way into more IoT devices.
