Biometric Signature ID Provides Authentication Tech for Middle East-focused Education Company

Biometric Signature ID (BSI) has teamed up with the Educational Technology Company Limited (Edutacs) to facilitate online testing programs in Saudi Arabia. To that end, BSI will be providing Edutacs with biometric identity verification technology that will ensure that the person taking an online exam is indeed the person who is supposed to be taking that exam.

The arrangement specifically concerns BSI’s BioSig-ID and BioSight-ID solutions. The former is a gesture recognition solution that asks users to use their finger or a mouse to draw their password instead of typing it. Each person’s drawing pattern is unique, so an imposter with the proper password would still not be able to use it to log into an account.

BioSight-ID, on the other hand, uses the device’s camera to monitor students as they take a test. Unlike other solutions, BioSight-ID uses Face Anonymization to protect the privacy of the test taker and prevent data collection and identity theft.

Edutacs plans to market the two solutions to universities, and for use in corporate training programs.

“BSI offers solutions that not only help to deter cheating, but also provide a means of monitoring the user in a way that protects sensitive information,” said Abdul Muhssen H. Al Gahtani, the EVP of the HAKA Group, which is Edutacs’ parent organization. “BSI’s service will be well received throughout the Middle East.”

“Online learning creates cheating and fraud opportunities and it is paramount that we look for ways to combat this growing problem,” added BSI Founder and CEO Jeff Maynard.

The Japanese IT firm TIS has previously leveraged BioSig-ID to enable secure payments in a Virtual Reality setting. The Edutacs partnership, meanwhile, reflects the growing demand for remote learning technology during the COVID-19 pandemic. In July, TypingDNA unveiled a new proctoring app that utilizes keystroke dynamics, while CourseKey has added biometric authentication to its own attendance tracking solution.
