Biometric smart locks are a key focus at CES 2025, with multiple companies introducing new products that combine advanced security features with enhanced functionality. These developments highlight the growing role of biometrics in smart home security systems.
Lockly Vision Prestige: Integrated Security Features
Lockly introduced the Vision Prestige Duet Series, which integrates facial recognition, a video doorbell, and an AI-powered camera. It features a 190° camera that streams 2K video to a display on the interior side of the lock. Unlocking options include facial recognition, fingerprint scanning, keycodes, and NFC via Apple Home Key. However, the device lacks compatibility with the Matter standard. The Vision Prestige is expected to launch in late 2025 at a price of $499.
Lockly Secure Pro: Hands-Free Unlocking
Another product from Lockly, the Secure Pro, incorporates Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology for hands-free unlocking. The lock communicates with authorized devices, such as smartphones or smartwatches, to unlock as the user approaches. Additional features include a fingerprint sensor, a touchscreen keypad, and the option for a physical key. The Secure Pro is priced at $379.99 and is designed for Android flagships, with NFC functionality available for Apple devices.
BenjiLock Outdoor Fingerprint Padlock: Durable and Accessible
BenjiLock unveiled its Outdoor Fingerprint Padlock, part of its Stainless Steel Series. Designed for both indoor and outdoor use, the padlock offers fingerprint-based access for up to 10 users and features IP68-rated weather resistance. It operates offline for enhanced privacy and has a USB-C rechargeable battery with up to one year of use per charge. The padlock is available at a price of $79.99.
Philips 5000 and 4000 Series: Biometric and Matter-Compatible Options
Philips Home Access presented two new products at CES 2025. The enhanced 5000 Series Video Palm Recognition Smart Lock combines biometric palm vein recognition with HD video monitoring, while the 4000 Series Matter-Compatible Smart Deadbolt emphasizes interoperability with major smart home ecosystems. Both products are slated for release in the second half of 2025, with pricing details yet to be announced.
While biometric locks are nothing new – they have been on store shelves for years – these latest product announcements at CES 2025 show their increasing prominence, and a strengthening focus on biometric capabilities and smart home integration in the security technology sector. Companies are focusing on combining user convenience with robust security features to meet evolving consumer needs.
