HID Global is enhancing its HID Mobile Access solution through a new partnership with BioConnect. The biometrics specialist will be outfitting HID Global with its own BioConnect Mobile Authenticator, which will be integrated into HID Mobile Access to provide administrators and end users with a more complete set of authentication options.
HID Mobile Access is designed for access control, allowing people to gain entry to a building with a digital credential stored on a standard smartphone. BioConnect’s Mobile Authenticator will supplement those credentials with device-based biometric and multi-factor authentication, providing an additional layer of identity assurance for venue operators.
In that regard, the BioConnect Mobile App offers support for multiple biometric modalities, including face and fingerprint recognition. System administrators can configure the system to require certain authenticators at high-risk access points, while people are free to choose their preferred modality in lower-risk situations. In either case, the BioConnect and HID Global solution will generate an auditable record of access control events.
The BioConnect partnership will also give organizations access to Health and Wellness Declarations. The Declarations ask users to self-report on their health status to determine whether or not they have symptoms of (or have potentially been exposed to) COVID-19. Employees can be asked to fill out Declarations on their mobile devices before they arrive at work, and access will only be granted to those with a clean bill of health.
“The collaboration with BioConnect underscores our commitment to offering customers a broad range of options for convenient and secure access control,” said HID Global Product Management and Cloud Services VP Hilding Arrehed. “HID Mobile Access continues to deliver on the promise to elevate and simplify the user experience by enabling a broad range of complementary applications and use cases on a single mobile device.”
HID Global has previously provided Mobile Access for the Russian internet provider Mail.Ru and for the American School of Guatemala. The technology is also being used at Avalon facilities all over the world.
BioConnect, meanwhile, recently won the award for Best Convergence and Integration Solution at the ISC West New Product Showcase with its BioConnect Enterprise 5.0 offering. The Wellness Declarations have been deployed at the MaRS innovation hub in downtown Toronto.
