BIO-key Wins Middle East Government Security Agency Authentication Deployment

BIO-key International has won a new Middle East government security agency customer for its multifactor authentication and single sign-on platform, with the deployment nearing completion.

The system protects access to the agency’s core communications infrastructure, including web-based services. Multifactor authentication requires more than one form of evidence to establish a user’s identity, while single sign-on lets authorized users access connected services through a common authentication process.

BIO-key says the engagement moved from initial discussions to an agreement in less than two months. Its Gulf distribution partner IT Harmony supported the customer evaluation and implementation, working with both the agency and BIO-key during the transition into deployment.

The customer joins BIO-key’s government and financial-sector installations in the Middle East, which include regional defense organizations. International managing director Alex Rocha said the current installation is close to completion and that customer feedback has been positive.

IT Harmony technical leader Rami Alamleh said the project progressed through cooperation between the distributor, vendor and agency. BIO-key described the evaluation as focused on understanding the customer’s operational priorities and longer-term identity-security requirements.

The new installation follows a separate partnership with Dubai-based Al Majlis Group to develop government and private-sector opportunities in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. That agreement pairs BIO-key’s identity and access management products with the advisory group’s regional relationships and public-affairs expertise.

BIO-key has also expanded its authentication portfolio through FIDO certification for its Passkey:YOU workforce authenticator. That product supports passkey sign-in using shared fingerprint readers or access badges, alongside a mobile authentication route. Its certification concerns the authenticator’s conformance to the specified FIDO standard and assurance level.

The company’s broader identity and access management business serves employees, customers and citizens across banking, government, healthcare and other sectors. Its products are designed to reduce reliance on passwords and control access to applications and information systems. Its international operations include Spain, Portugal, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong and Nigeria.

For the new agency engagement, BIO-key and IT Harmony are implementing authentication and single sign-on around the customer’s communications services. IT Harmony supplies cybersecurity technologies across the Gulf, supporting government and enterprise customers through its regional distribution network.
