BIO-key says its Passkey:YOU authenticator has received FIDO Alliance Full Certification at Security Assurance Level L1 under the FIDO2 CTAP 2.0 specification. The certification applies to a workforce authentication product that lets employees use a shared fingerprint scanner or an existing access badge to sign in with passkeys.
Unlike a passkey held on each employee’s phone or personal security key, BIO-key’s model places the authentication hardware at a workstation. An employee touches a connected scanner or taps a badge to unlock the centrally managed passkey service. The company says this can serve workers who move among shared computers or work in places where personal phones are restricted, including healthcare, manufacturing and secure facilities.
A mobile path is also available through BIO-key’s MobileAuth app on iOS and Android. MobileAuth supports palm and face checks, BIO-key says, while badge taps provide a nonbiometric route. The options let an organization match its authentication method to device policies and workplace conditions. BIO-key says employees can enroll once and then use the system with services that accept passkeys, including enterprise identity platforms. A passkey uses public-key cryptography to authenticate a user without requiring the person to type a password into a website or application.
The company emphasizes management controls behind the authenticator. Security teams can see which relying parties, or services accepting the passkeys, employees use; approve new destinations; and revoke access to a particular service. Those controls are part of BIO-key’s enterprise system, while the FIDO certification concerns conformance of the authenticator to the specified standard and assurance level.
Passkey:YOU adds a standards-based route to the company’s broader biometric identity and access management business. A Portuguese national security agency selected BIO-key technology for biometric identity and access management, reflecting the company’s focus on controlled work environments. Passkeys have also expanded in public services: GOV.UK One Login made passkeys available to more than 23 million users.
BIO-key is pitching Passkey:YOU to organizations that want the phishing-resistant sign-in associated with passkeys but cannot assume that every employee carries a suitable personal device. Its shared-scanner and badge options give administrators another way to deploy that authentication method across a workforce.
