BIO-key Upgrades WEB-key, Fingerprint Algorithm Platforms

BIO-key has upgraded its WEB-key biometric authentication platform and its fingerprint algorithm system, the company has announced.

Designed to act as the of backbone for a range of identity and access management systems, WEB-key 4.0 introduces support for One-Time Passwords, proximity cards, security questions, and old-fashioned PINs and passwords. It also enables interfacing with the Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Microsoft Edge browsers, and an HTML interface customization feature for enterprise branding.

The upgrade comes on the heels of a big new order from a client in the government defense sector, which has elected to use WEB-key together with BIO-key fingerprint readers to secure its Microsoft Active Directory assets. As such, it should lead to an even happier customer, and possibly more business to come.

Meanwhile, BIO-key’s core biometric fingerprint algorithm system, VST, has been updated to offer Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux support in its Software Developer Kit, with Android in the pipeline for Q2; and to support biometric hardware via Citrix, Remote Desktop, and VMware Horizon. There have also been tweaks to its programming aimed at delivering greater reliability and speed, and two new algorithms have been incorporated into the system that are designed to support small area sensors and small image sources. And in a move that opens up new integration opportunities, VST 6.6 can now be integrated into an app or platform on a standalone basis, without the need for WEB-key’s support.
