BIO-key has announced an updated version of its MobileAuth multi-factor authentication (MFA) solution. MobileAuth first debuted in May of 2021, and enables biometric authentication through a mobile app that is compatible with Android and iOS devices.
MobileAuth itself offers native support for palm and face recognition with BIO-key’s PalmPositive and FacePositive technologies, respectively. The app also allows people to take advantage of the biometric sensors that come built into their smartphones, including those that are featured in Face and Touch ID and the Android Biometrics platform.
In doing so, MobileAuth strives to provide end users with more biometric authentication options, while simultaneously minimizing IT costs for the organizations that adopt the solution. On that front, MobileAuth is a fully passwordless offering that eliminates the security risks associated with knowledge-based authenticators, and a convenient solution that gets rid of the replacement and lifecycle costs that come with hardware tokens.
In that regard, BIO-key believes that MobileAuth is a more convenient option for end users and businesses alike. The solution can run on any mobile device with a built-in camera, so businesses do not need to invest in any additional hardware to implement the solution at scale. It can provide coverage for remote and on-premise use cases, or be deployed alongside a public-facing app to enable secure Customer Identity and Access Management.
End users will need to create a BIO-key PortalGuard IDaaS account to enjoy the full benefits of MobileAuth. The updated solution comes with better encryption and more user-friendly management tools, and will be widely available sometime in the third quarter of the year. MobileAuth also offers support for push token authentication.
“The current authentication process is not frictionless, and with cybercrime on a steady rise, it’s more important than ever to have a strong, easy-to-use and affordable multi-factor authentication strategy in place,” said BIO-key Chairman and CEO Michael DePasquale. “We’re extremely proud to address this need by empowering our customers to take full advantage of Identity-Bound Biometrics from the convenience of any mobile device using MobileAuth.”
The MobileAuth PalmPositive solution received a Technology Innovation Award from Lucintel in July. BIO-key has indicated that its PortalGuard and MobileAuth solutions could help the company reach a break-even point as a business before the end of 2022.
