BIO-key has received its first orders for its TouchLock biometric padlocks.
In a statement announcing the orders, BIO-key indicated that they came from “distribution customers in Japan and China,” in the words of BIO-key Hong Kong Managing Director Wong Kwok Fong. He added that BIO-key has “opened discussions with some of the largest bicycle manufacturers in both countries about bundling our biometric locks with the purchase of their bicycles.”
BIO-key first unveiled its new biometric lock devices at this year’s Consumer Electronics show. The roster now includes the heavy-duty TouchLock XL, TouchLock TSA padlocks for luggage, and colorful TouchLock Designer Series and TouchLock Bike locks, all of which feature embedded fingerprint sensors; meanwhile, the TouchLock BLE locks are designed to pair with smartphones via Bluetooth, and to use the paired device’s fingerprint sensor for unlocking.
“The commercial launch of these innovative products is a major milestone for BIO-key’s consumer facing business and a direct benefit of our strategic partnership and presence in Asia,” said BIO-key chairman and CEO Mike DePasquale.
“We are working to build upon these sales in Asia at the same time we are in discussions with distributors and retailers in the U.S.” he added.
BIO-key will showcase the devices at next month’s GIFTEX 2017 trade show, which runs from July 5th to 7th in Tokyo.
