BIO-key Sponsors Security Panel at New York Counties Conference

BIO-key is continuing to target county governments. The company has delivered PortalGuard for several counties since attending the National Association of Counties Conference last summer, and is now headed to another event as the sponsor of the “Cyber Security: A Primer for County Leaders” workshop at the 2022 New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) Legislative Conference next week.

NYSAC is set to run from March 14-16 at the Crowne Plaza in Albany, New York. The Cyber Security workshop, meanwhile, is scheduled for the first day of the event, and will run 3:45-5:00 pm ET on March 14. The workshop is intended to highlight some of the major cyber threats facing contemporary governments, and to share some of the strategies that administrators can use to protect their organizations and their constituents.

In that regard, the NYSAC has partnered with local governments and academic institutions to publish a Cyber Security Primer for Local Government Leaders. The workshop will cover much of the information in that Primer, which touches on everything from phishing and ransomware to the challenges that come with managing a hybrid workforce and providing remote services during the pandemic. It also advises county administrators to work with their IT departments to develop an effective security strategy that mitigates their risk of exposure.

“The top priority for county governments is to serve and protect their citizens and employees. To do that, everyone needs to understand and take action to keep their counties safe,” said BIO-key Chairman and CEO Michael DePasquale. “Sponsoring this workshop is another example of our commitment to helping government entities on their journey to better cyber security.”

Since the start of the year, BIO-key has provided PortalGuard for New York’s Herkimer County, and for Lawrence County, Audrain County, and Rio Arriba County in South Dakota, Missouri, and New Mexico, respectively. The PortalGuard solution can enable multi-factor authentication to help governments comply with various security regulations.
