BIO-key Provides PortalGuard Security for Marine Repair Specialist

YYK Enterprises Operations is the latest company to turn to BIO-key for passwordless security. The company provides repair and maintenance services for both commercial and military maritime clients, and will be using BIO-key’s PortalGuard IAM solution to strengthen its internal security processes and provide employees with a better access control experience.

On that front, YYK’s PortalGuard deployment comes with BIO-key’s WEB-key solution for biometric authentication, which allows employees to log into corporate applications with a biometric scan rather than a password. YYK will also be using BIO-key’s PIV-Pro fingerprint readers to carry out some of those scans, in a move that will make BIO-key the sole-source provider for YYK’s new enterprise security solution.

According to BIO-key, the arrangement will allow YYK to comply with the strict encryption and data security requirements that are imposed on businesses that work with the US government. The PIV-Pro fingerprint scanners are compliant with the FIPS 201 standard, while PortalGuard itself is able to verify the true identity of a user, rather than the device they happen to be using.

YYK is hoping that passwordless authentication will minimize frustration for employees who no longer have to enter or remember passwords. PortalGuard, meanwhile, recently won a Govies Government Security Award. The company provided PortalGuard services for the Department of Defense back in 2020, and has since gained traction with county governments across the US.
