BIO-key has teamed up with Prominic.NET to extend its reach in the government sector. The deal specifically concerns BIO-key’s PortalGuard identity and access management (IAM) solution, which will be deployed with a Department of Defense agency in the United States.
Prominic itself runs data centers for organizations that use HCL Digital Solutions products. Through the partnership, BIO-key has been able to integrate PortalGuard with the HCL Domino environment being used by the DoD agency in question. As a result, the agency will be able to take advantage of PortalGuard’s Single Sign-On (SSO) capabilities to enable convenient and secure logins for employees that need to gain access to various workplace applications.
DoD employees will be using smart cards with Personal Identity Verification (PIV) credentials to log in with the PortalGuard system. However, the system will still offer support for more traditional forms of two-factor authentication to make sure that employees will still be able to log in when they do not have a card.
“We are proud to be selected for this important DoD application environment,” said BIO-key PortalGuard President Mark Cochran. “The combination of single-sign-on and multifactor authentication capabilities allows PortalGuard to provide a higher level of configurable security to protect our customer’s critical systems and data.”
The unspecified DoD agency is not BIO-key’s only government partner. The US Government Services Agency (GSA) and the municipal government of Durham, North Carolina have already adopted PortalGuard for access control. The solution has also proven to be popular with academic institutions.
