BIO-key Named Finalist for SC Media Trust Award

BIO-key is celebrating some industry recognition this week, announcing that it’s one of five finalists for the SC Media 2021 Trust Award in the category of Best Authentication Technology.

The company has been recognized for its PortalGuard IDaaS solution, a Single Sign-On platform acquired by BIO-key last year via its purchase of PistolStar, with an eye to potential synergies with BIO-key’s own fingerprint recognition technologies. The solution quickly proved to be a highly popular component of BIO-key’s portfolio, with a number of deployments in the following months, especially in the higher education sector.

Commenting on BIO-key’s shortlist placement in a statement, SC Media Editor in Chief Jill Aitoro noted that the pandemic drove up the kinds of cyberthreats that call for solutions like BIO-key’s PortalGuard.

“While the world will remember 2020 as the year of the pandemic and working from home, other threats did not diminish. In fact, phishing and ransomware experienced a banner year,” Aitoro explained. “BIO-key’s PortalGuard IDaaS and the other finalists for Trust Awards provided to companies the tools and services needed to respond to the unrelenting threat landscape, even as security teams scrambled to adapt internal security policies.”

The SC Awards are aimed at recognizing cybersecurity leaders, with eligibility extended to vendors and service providers across the commercial, educational, government, and non-profit sectors. Other nominees in the Best Authentication Technology category include Duo Security, Okta Identity Cloud, Beyond Identity, and SecureAuth.

News of BIO-key’s inclusion on the shortlist arrives on the heels of a business update last week that showed a huge jump in revenues for the company’s fiscal 2020. Much of the credit was owed to the success of PortalGuard, which saw “robust interest”, according to CEO Mike DePasquale. But the company also highlighted its biometric projects in Africa and its Channel Alliance Partner program as important growth factors for BIO-key going forward.

The winners of SC Media’s 2021 Trust Awards will be announced on May 3rd.
