BIO-key Lands Another Academic PortalGuard Client

BIO-key has found another academic customer for its PortalGuard solution. The company has announced that California’s North Orange County Community College District (NOCCCD) will be deploying the platform to streamline its digital services for students and staff alike.

The news comes only days after Arcadia University in Pennsylvania became BIO-key’s first PortalGuard client. PortalGuard was originally developed by PistolStar, but BIO-key acquired both the company and the solution in a $2.5 million deal that was first announced in June and then finalized at the beginning of July.

PortalGuard is a multimodal authentication solution that can be deployed across a number of different digital channels to simplify login procedures. The technology negates the need to remember multiple user names and passwords, and is expected to reduce IT costs thanks to its robust self-service password reset system.   

“IT teams in higher education are consistently challenged with efficiently managing access to enterprise applications for transient student user populations,” said PortalGuard President Mark Cochran. “PortalGuard can corral all of this access activity into a unified IAM platform that enables IT teams to streamline access while addressing new security threats.”

NOCCCD plans to use PortalGuard to consolidate Banner 9, Canvas, Docusign, Thycotic Secret Server, Clockwork, and Luminis 5, amongst other applications.
