One of the markets that is showing amazing potential in terms of biometric deployments is healthcare. The topic of strong authentication in the health space for things like secure BYOD, electronic health records (EHR) and patient management solutions is constantly turning to biometrics as the answer. During last year’s Biometrics UnPlugged event in Tampa, Florida, guest speaker Dr. John D. Halamka even named the iPhone 5S as the kind of technology that could revolutionize the time-poor lives of those working in hospitals and clinics.
BIO-key International, provider of cost-effective and advanced finger identification solutions, has a number of partners in this critical area for biometrics, and during next week’s HIMSS 2014 convention in Orlando, Florida, we will get to see these collaborations demonstrated.
Today the company announced that its healthcare integration partners, which include Allscripts, Caradigm, Epic, HealthCast Solutions and Key Source International, will be presenting BIO-key’s solutions for EHR and patient identification.
“Our products enhance productivity and efficiency. Leading hospitals utilize BIO-key to reduce the organizations’ reliance on passwords, meet compliance requirements for two-factor authentication and EPCS while generating more time to care for patients and enhancing the overall security of patient records,” says Jay Meier, BIO-key’s vice president of corporate development. “Organizations benefit from our unique ability to reduce the cost of hardware associated with existing authentication platforms and replace them with flexible, scalable and interoperable software. Interoperability protects the investment and prepares the hospital’s IT department for the future of biometric authentication on mobile devices.”
One demonstration in particular that will be of interest of findBIOMETRICS readers is taking place at the Allscripts booth between 9:30 AM and 1:00 PM on Wednesday the 26th. Here there will be live enrollment demonstrations for the Allscripts TouchWorks, Sunrise Clinical Manager and Professional EHR. The demonstrations can provide an example of how this kind of technology and bring post-password efficiency and security to a workplace in dire need of it.
