There are very many benefits that come with adding biometrics to employee access in retail. Since a biometric access system at a retail point-of-sale (POS) means no more forgotten passwords or lost tokens and a trustworthy transaction record, administrative time and cost goes down while employee accountability shoots up.
BIO-key International announced today that its fingerprint biometric authentication solutions will be on the receiving end of an expansion in this regard. NCR Corporation will be further expanding its deployment of BIO-key technology through a number of national retail chains, spreading biometric employee point-of-sale access control to tens of thousands of POS terminals.
“The longstanding relationship with NCR reinforces several elements of BIO-key’s reputation in the market, as well as continues to generate significant revenue for the Company,” says Jim Sullivan, VP of strategy and business development at BIO-key. “The expanded utilization demonstrates that BIO-key fingerprint authentication outperforms traditional authentication methods in real-world visible applications; nothing is more mission-critical to a retailer’s revenue than the POS.”
NCR is a provider of retail operations technology. The expansion will see BIO-key’s software in popular retail chains including fast food restaurants like Wendy’s and Arby’s.
“Additionally,” continues Sullivan, “sophisticated buyers of biometric technology clearly recognize the benefit of investing in our reliable, high quality and interoperable fingerprint solutions. Our advanced and visionary approach to sensor independent fingerprint technology allowed NCR and its customers to evolve through three different fingerprint scanner suppliers since our relationship began. BIO-key technology makes the identity and authentication life-cycle easier and less expensive to manage; we expect to deliver continued success and to receive additional orders over time.”
BIO-key’s technology is versatile and can therefore receive a wide range of deployments. Recently, the company has been targeting the mobile market through its new partnership with sensor manufacturer IDEX. Last week, Mobile ID World published the first part of an interview with Jay Meier, BIO-key’s VP of corporate development, on the topic of the current state of mobile banking in comparison to mobile payments.
