BIO-key has added Manny Alia to the company’s Board of Directors. Alia is currently the President of Exponential Launch Partners Limited and the Chief Executive Officer of the Technology Transfer Institute of Africa (TTI).
As a member of the Board, Alia will be expected to use his expertise to support BIO-key’s African subsidiary and its broader efforts on the continent. The subsidiary was established in November, and BIO-key has since gone on to sign a pair of lucrative contracts in Nigeria. One is a $30 million contract with a telecommunications company, while the other is a $45 million contract to develop e-commerce infrastructure in the country. TTI (and Alia) helped BIO-key secure both contracts as a member of the BIO-key Channel Alliance Partner Program.
“We are thrilled to augment our Board with a senior executive with a strong financial services and technology background and wide base of relationships, particularly in Africa,” said BIO-key Chairman and CEO Michael DePasquale. “Manny’s support should allow BIO-key to build on our successes in Africa and expand our leadership position on the continent.”
“The continent represents an enormous and growing market where the need and business opportunities for biometrics are imminent,” added Alia. “This should drive revenue growth for BIO-key and its shareholders, and I am pleased to be part of the future of BIO-key.”
Alia previously served as the Executive Director at JPMorgan Chase, where he oversaw wholesale Corporate and Investment Banking Receivable Operations in the U.S. and Canada.
