BIO-key Expands African Presence with Mozambique Bank Security Deal

BIO-key International has partnered with technology provider Runlevel to deploy its identity and access management (IAM) solutions in Portuguese-speaking African markets, beginning with a national bank in Mozambique. The collaboration marks BIO-key’s first major customer deployment in the region and expands the company’s footprint in the African financial services sector.

Strategic Partnership Targets PALOP and Timor-Leste

Runlevel joins BIO-key’s Channel Alliance Partner (CAP) program as a Value-Added Reseller (VAR), with a focus on the PALOP nations (Portuguese-speaking African countries) and Timor-Leste. The company will deliver pre-sales consulting, deployment assistance, and technical training to support the implementation of BIO-key’s IAM technologies. These services will be tailored to meet local regulatory requirements, a key consideration in markets facing growing cybersecurity threats and digital transformation pressures.

The Mozambique deployment features PortalGuard On-Prem, BIO-key’s enterprise-grade solution for multi-factor authentication and single sign-on. This offering enables secure and streamlined access across enterprise systems, helping organizations strengthen authentication controls while maintaining compliance. The rollout draws on BIO-key’s experience supporting financial institutions in the region, including a notable project with Capitec Bank in South Africa.

Expanding Across Africa and Beyond

BIO-key’s collaboration with Runlevel follows a pattern of strategic regional partnerships. The company recently teamed with Arrow ECS to grow its presence in Spain and Portugal and expanded into East Africa through a partnership with a Kenya-based distributor. These moves reflect BIO-key’s focus on scaling its international distribution network to meet increasing demand for secure digital identity infrastructure in high-growth markets.

The company’s agility in deployment has been a differentiator. In one recent case, BIO-key completed a defense agency deployment in just four days. That operational efficiency will be critical as the company moves into new regions where rapid implementation and localized support are essential for adoption.

The partnership with Runlevel aims to equip financial institutions, government agencies, and enterprises across PALOP countries with scalable IAM infrastructure. As cybersecurity threats evolve and compliance obligations tighten, BIO-key’s expansion offers local stakeholders access to secure, standards-based digital identity solutions aligned with international best practices.
