Axon Wireless is strengthening its biometric onboarding platform through a new partnership with LoginID. The deal allows Axon to integrate LoginID’s passwordless authentication tech into its own Face2Face customer registration solution, which in turn brings Face2Face in line with the latest FIDO2 authentication protocols. LoginID is a longtime supporter of the FIDO standard, and has boasted FIDO2 certification for several years.
Axon’s Face2Face solution has already been used to onboard more than 250 million customers in 10 countries, and that number climbs by an average of 3 million on a monthly basis. The solution is popular with banks and mobile operators, and Axon believes that it will become even more popular with the latter as more countries (especially in Asia and Africa) start to require biometric registration for those signing up for a mobile account. Such measures are intended to reduce the threat of phishing, SIM swap fraud, and other kinds of cyberattacks.
The partnership with LoginID will allow Axon to scale its operations and comply with increasingly strict international regulations. Axon operates primarily in Africa, and believes that the number of mobile subscribers on the continent will jump from 495 million in 2020 to 615 million by 2025, with a similar increase in overall mobile internet use. Axon provides clients with biometric registration hardware in addition to Face2Face software, and has already delivered more than 50,000 devices to customer registration agents.
“Axon Wireless will utilize FIDO biometric security as a part of their digital onboarding services,” said Axon COO Romeo Pestana. “LoginID’s SDKs make it simple to integrate and provide a highly scalable platform to support our current customer base, and growth into the future.”
“By introducing FIDO as part of their process for onboarding customers they are demonstrating they are utilizing the most secure technology for securing customer interactions, and staying ahead of compliance requirements that are becoming the norm,” added Thierry Siminger, who is the Head of LoginID’s Telecom Business Unit and its GM for the Middle East and Africa.
Visa became a LoginID backer with an undisclosed investment in June of 2021. LoginID also received a grant from the Algorand Foundation to develop an authentication solution for the latter’s blockchain ecosystem.
