Aware’s Biometric Tech Passes PFT III Exam

Aware’s fingerprint recognition algorithm has officially passed the NIST’s Proprietary Fingerprint Template (PFT) III test. In doing so, Aware became only the fifth company to complete the evaluation, with Aware posting a top-three performance in single print scenarios and a top-two performance when multiple fingers are involved.

The accomplishment reaffirms Aware’s status as one of the world’s leading providers of fingerprint recognition technology. The company received Level 1 and Level 2 MINEX III certification from the NIST back in January.

The PFT evaluation, meanwhile, is a measure of an algorithm’s 1:1 fingerprint matching capabilities, though it also speaks to its accuracy in 1:Many settings. The test takes both the speed and accuracy of the solution into account, especially with regards to the generation and use of biometric templates. In that regard, Aware noted that its proprietary templates store fingerprint data in a unique way that can only be interpreted through its own proprietary template generator. The company’s tech was tested on a diverse dataset that included multiple kinds of fingerprint impressions and images captured at 500 and 1,000-pixel resolutions.

TECH5 and Neurotechnology are some of the other companies that have done well on the NIST’s PFT III evaluation. Aware’s fingerprint technology is available through its AwareABIS portfolio of products, which includes the AFIX suite and the new AwareABIS platform that debuted earlier this year.
