“In joining forces, the companies are aiming to appeal to the law enforcement market, highlighting their technologies’ compatibility with the FBI’s Next Generation Identification Iris Service.”
Aware, Inc. and Iris ID have teamed up in a partnership that will see the latter’s iris scanning hardware integrated into the Aware platform.
In particular, Aware’s Nexa|Iris iris recognition algorithm and the AwareABIS large-scale biometric identification system will support Iris ID’s iris-scanning technology.
In joining forces, the companies are aiming to appeal to the law enforcement market, highlighting their technologies’ compatibility with the FBI’s Next Generation Identification Iris Service. The NGI program is widely used by state and local police agencies across the country in order to access the FBI’s large database of biometric data; Iris ID, for its part, has some experience facilitating NGI access through its iris scanning technology.
In a statement announcing the partnership, Aware, Inc. Chief Commercial Officer Rob Mungovan called the partnership “a natural fit”, and highlighted Iris ID’s stature in the iris recognition market.
“Iris ID has long been a leading provider of iris capture hardware, and we are excited to offer their capture hardware to our AwareABIS and Nexa|Iris customers looking for a best-in-class capture device system performance,” he said. “The combination of our software with Iris ID’s hardware will improve accessibility of the FBI’s next generation iris service at the state and local level.”
“Aware has a strong track record of biometric expertise, and when coupled with our state-of-the-art iris recognition solution, criminal justice agencies at any level can experience highly accurate, fast and touchless iris recognition capabilities,” added Iris ID VP Mohammed Murad.
The partnership’s announcement arrives in the same week as the National Sheriff’s Association’s Annual Conference and Exhibition, where Iris ID is showcasing its solutions. That should provide a good opportunity for the company to attract some attention to its own technologies and those of its new partner.
