Aware Attains MINEX III Level 1 and 2 Compliance

Aware is now one of two US companies to receive MINEX III certification from the NIST. The Minutiae Interoperability Exchange (MINEX) is one of the more stringent industry standards for fingerprint recognition, and evaluates solutions for their template generation and template matching capabilities.

Solutions that pass the MINEX test are compliant with the US government’s Personal Identity Verification (PIV) program, and can be deployed with organizations that require that level of security. Aware’s offering received both Level 1 and Level 2 PIV certification, and scored better than its US counterpart in both the template generation and matching rankings.

“Compliance with the PIV program is often a mandatory requirement for worldwide public and private organizations that use or require fingerprint technology. This is because it guarantees both the security and interoperability,” said Aware Chief Technology Officer Mohamed Lazzouni. “By completing this certification, Aware has taken on the investment required to get certified so that our customers do not have to undergo this process themselves.”

Aware’s algorithms were tested in the pooled two-finger category, with a MINEX dataset that asks solutions to generate 2 million templates and 3 million matches. The company’s fingerprint recognition tech is available through its AwareABIS and AwareXM product lines.

TECH5, Neurotechnology, and Aratek are some of the other companies with MINEX III certification. Aware recently expanded its ABIS portfolio through the acquisition of Maxar’s AFIX suite, which included fingerprint and forensic analysis software designed for law enforcement agencies. The company’s fingerprint-based CaptureSuite has also been deployed at border crossings in the US and Europe in the past 12 months.
