“BioSP is the leading biometric platform because of its rich feature set, rapid configurability, and proven reliability for mission-critical applications, all provided as an off-the-shelf software product.” – Rob Mungovan, Vice President Biometrics at Aware.
Aware, Inc. has won a major biometric contract with the UK government, the company has announced. It’s going to assist in the implementation of a biometric services system with applications in border control, immigration, and law enforcement.
In a statement, Aware explained that it will be supporting a team led by Fujitsu Services Limited and focused on the provision of a “biometric matcher integration hub.” Aware’s contribution will revolve around its Biometric Services Platform (or “BioSP”), which it says will “provide workflows and a layer of abstraction between multiple biometric matchers and other subsystems.”
Aware, Inc.’s contract is valued at US$38 million over five years, with the option of a three-year extension.
In a statement announcing the contract win, Aware Biometrics VP Rob Mungovan asserted that the company’s BioSP solution is “the leading biometric platform because of its rich feature set, rapid configurability, and proven reliability for mission-critical applications, all provided as an off-the-shelf software product.”
Aware’s announcement comes soon after the news that IDEMIA had won a major contract to provide the UK’s Home Office with an upgraded fingerprint matching system, suggesting that the government agency is in the midst of a major biometrics program featuring a range of major vendors.
