The market for automated border control kiosks will see a CAGR of over 20 percent over the next three years, according to a new report from Acuity Market Intelligence.
It will be a continuation of a growth trend already well underway, with Acuity asserting that the number of automated border control kiosks increased by over 60 percent over the past year. Acuity calculates that there are now 2283 such kiosks deployed across 59 ports of entry around the world, with border authorities having “embraced digital identification and biometric-based automation to simplify and accelerate border control processing,” according to Acuity’s report.
Looking to a regional breakdown, Acuity says that the US and Canada currently dominate the global ABC kiosk market, holding 60 percent and 35 percent of marketshare, respectively. Indeed, Vancouver Airport’s Innovative Travel Solutions group holds over 60 percent marketshare in ABC kiosks and installation. Meanwhile, “only about 100 kiosks are deployed at ten locations across the Caribbean, Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East,” though Acuity expects an expansion in Asia, Latin America, and Africa in the next few years.
As for the kinds of deployments that are in the pipeline, while airport deployments currently lead the market, Acuity says it “expects broader use of kiosks at more seaports and land crossings over the next three to five years” – a sensible prediction in the wake of the Customs and Border Protection agency’s recent trial of facial recognition to identify passengers disembarking from a cruise ship.
